Kocaeli's Location
Kocaeli is a province east of the Marmara Sea and the Marmara Region which connects Asia and Europe. it is comprised of a total of seven counties which are Gebze, Körfez, Karamürsel, Gölcük, Kandira, Derince and the Central County of izmit.
The Black Sea is to its North, the Sakarya province is in the East and South east, Bursa is in the south and the
Provinces of Yalova and istanbul are located to its West. With regard to its location Kocaeli is Turkey's sixth smallest province. According to the 2000 consensus the population was 1.203.335 and the population per km2 was 344.
it is öne of Turkey's most important passing point by road, railway, sea and air. |

The Saatci Ali Efendi Mansion (Museum of
Ethnography)- Izmit
The mansion was built in 1776 on a slope with a dominant view of the sea and is one of the best examples of civil architecture of its time with its wooden shutters and boxed, railed windows and engraved decorations both on the inner and outer walls. |

The Gayret Ship Museum- Izmit
in 1997 it was turned into a Fine Arts Gallery and Sea Museum by the joint cooperation of the Navy and the Kocaeli Governor and the izmit Great City Municipality. |

The Pertev Pasha Kulliye-Izmit
The Kulliye was built by the Architect Sinan in the 16th. century. Today it is called "Yeni Cuma Camii" The kulliye was comprised of a mosque, fountain, baths, school, caravansary and a soup kitchen. The relics remaining in our day are arranged on both sides of the city's Yeni Cuma street (The New Friday Street). |

The Clock Tower - Izmit
The city's characteristic Clock Tower is to be found in Izmit's Kemalpasha District between the Hunting Pavillion and Ataturk's Statue. it was built by Izmit's Governor Musa Kazim Bey to celebrate the 25th anniversay of Sultan Abdul Hamid M's accession to the throne. |
